Dear PFA Friends
Do you recycle? Should we feel guilty about not recycling? What
does it mean to lead a good life in our time? We will explore
some of these issues in our next Kant's Cave meeting, examining
whether the new buzz ideas of "ethical living" and "ethical
consumerism" are anything more than skin deep.
In our PFA events we endeavour to show how philosophy is relevant
to real life. All the more exciting that, in his upcoming Philosophy
Debate, Richard Baron invites us to ask "What's wrong with
being deluded?"
He thus questions the most important of philosophical assumptions,
i.e. the commitment to truth, asking us to reconsider its status
in our everyday lives. - Maybe there is no special value in "living
in the real world"?
Andrew, in last issue's editorial, described how the PFA has developed
during the 10 years of its existence. Over the last few years
we have added to our repertoire of events the film club, feminism
forum and reading group meetings. The dynamic of PFA comes from
those who participate in it - all of us. So let me reiterate Andrew's
appeal: Come to us with your suggestions and initiatives. - Who
knows what we can do in the next ten years?
