Sat 4 Feb: Sharpenhoe Clappers by moonlight; 7 miles

Sharpenhoe ClappersA short and fairly easy walk, with one climb after the first couple of miles. This lasts about half a mile, after that we are on the plateau and remain so till dropping down to Harlington again towards the end of the walk. There will be a meal break after about three miles at the Chequers in Streatley.

The walk, including the meal stop, should take around four and a half hours. You can download a map, aerial photograph and elevation profile here.

You can also look at a map and aerial photograph side by side at the brilliant Where's the path? site, though the route is not marked on that.

Meet either at Harlington station at 1610, or on the 1520 Bedford train from platform 1* at St Pancras. If travelling by train, buy a cheap day return ticket to Harlington. I will be carrying a PFA bulletin for identification.

Moonlight walks are more dependent on the weather than daytime walks, none of which have (yet) been cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. GPS technology has made bright moonlight not so crucial as it was formerly, but walking in the dark and the rain is not much fun, so if the weather looks uncertain, phone or text me on the number below to check that the walk is going ahead.
